Product Development Chemist

As a Chemist, you will be responsible for inkjet ink development for customer use in packaging, mailing, wide format, security, novel, and other applications. Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Use scientific method and project planning for formulating product development and application opportunities.
  • Formulate ink and perform color matches for customers.
  • Conduct laboratory testing on products.
  • Prepare results summary of projects.
  • Lead technical problem-solving efforts for customers.
  • Identify and understand the intellectual property for developed products including how it fits with competitive protection.
  • Develop and demonstrate professional expertise through internal technical reports, published articles, customer visits, and technical conferences.
  • Sample preparation including physical property measurement, printer operation and maintenance, and data analysis with documentation.
  • Conduct raw material research, procurement, and evaluation.
  • Perform lab equipment maintenance and calibrations.

The ideal candidate will be organized, detail oriented, and have strong written and oral communication skills to be able to clearly document activities with each sample. You must be able to work well with internal and external members of the team for problem resolution. Other requirements of this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or similar field.
  • Experience in a laboratory environment and equipment including Viscometers, Spectrophotometers, Conductivity meters, Colorimeters, Refractive Index, Surface Tensiometer, Microscope, Energy curable light sources (UV, LED, E-beam), and FTIR.
  • Ink or coatings experience preferred.
  • Ability to develop and write technical reports.
  • Ability to manage time in order to meet project deadlines.

Ink - Batchmaker

As the Ink – Batchmaker, you will be primarily responsible for operating ink-making machinery and equipment, manufacturing and packaging fluids, and keeping your workstation, equipment and products clean and orderly. Other responsibilities include:

  • Pull, weigh, blend raw materials to make inks (water, solvent, UV/EB, or oil based).
  • Read and interpret batch tickets and adhere to work processes and procedures.
  • Process and complete documentation accurately by recording information on batch tickets, labels containers, packages inks and inspect customer products per requirements.
  • Meet production schedules and metrics and ensure quality products are produced.
  • Follow all safety and regulatory compliance procedures.
  • Attend all required meetings and training.
  • Maintain adherence to “The Kao Way” standards at all times.
  • Be responsible for continuous improvement according to the Kao Collins culture.
  • Be responsible for inventory control activities.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, positive attitude, be meticulous and detail-oriented, clean, neat and orderly, honest, trustworthy, and reliable. Other requirements of this position include:

  • High school degree or equivalent, required.
  • Prior batch-making or compounding experience, preferred.
  • Prior experience in a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) environment is preferred.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. May use mathematical formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules or diagrams.
  • Sound judgment to make decisions regarding the sequence of setups, operations and processes within the limitations of standard operating.

Shipping and Receiving Agent

The Shipping and Receiving Agent is responsible for coordinating all incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment to ensure the success of each job and a high level of customer satisfaction.

  • Reviews shipping schedules, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities and shipping methods required to meet sales order schedules and customer carrier requirements.
  • Prepares all required shipping documents including such things as bills of lading, packing lists, custom clearance paperwork etc.
  • Utilizes packing techniques to pack customer product to meet company and customer requirements.
  • Processes and affixes all shipping labels and required information / labels on packages.
  •  Assists in determining the appropriate packing technique and solving packing problems.
  • Assists in determining the best shipping method for the customer and providing cost information to customer service.
  • Posts weight and dimensions and shipping charges for customer service to communicate to customers.
  • Obtains shipping rates from carriers as necessary for customer shipments.
  • Routes shipments and making arrangements for pick up by the carrier specified on the customer’s orders.
  • Enters and retrieves information in the ERP System and Fed Ex and UPS shipping systems.
  • Operates lift trucks or hand trucks to convey, move or hoist materials to proper departments or areas
  • Operates circular saw and shrink wrap machine to prepare skids for shipment.
  • Receives, checks in, and stores raw materials.
  • Unpacks, examines and routes incoming shipments, rejecting damaged items, recording shortages, and corresponding with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
  • Performs all computer functions necessary to track various aspects of goods.
  • Effectively communicates with customer service, sales, and production to ensure the success of each job and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintains shipping files and flammable good records in an accurate, organized, and orderly manner.
  • Provides forklift certification for employees within the company.

The Shipping and Receiving Agent must possess a strong work ethic, the ability to multi-task, be meticulous and detail oriented, organized, deadline driven and reliable. They must have strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work within a team. Individual must have a demonstrated ability to facilitate problem resolution and conflict management.

  • Employee must have a high school degree or equivalent.
  • Employee should have experience in shipping and receiving, preferably 2+ years.
  • Employee must have knowledge or ability to learn company product and shipping methods.
  • Employee must have basic math skills.
  • Employee must have computer skills, able to work with Process Pro (ERP system) and Cloud-based shipping programs for Federal Express and UPS.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. Must participate in company provided training and earn forklift certification. Must obtain DOT CFR 49 Hazardous Materials certification. Must be able to move around the shop floor and negotiate ramps and uneven floor surfaces with exposure to a typical shop environment; i.e. extreme heat, cold, dust, noise, fumes, and other elements. Must also be able to work in typical office conditions and sit to work at a computer. Must be able to reach up and across the body. Must wear required PPE. This position requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, stooping, pushing and pulling all day. Specifically, the Shipping and Receiving Agent must be able to:

  • Regularly lift and move items up 50+ pounds.
  • Roll and maneuver drums of product between 500 to 550 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Maintain fork lift certification.
  • Operate a pallet jack.
