Thermal inkjet (TIJ) technology for industrial inkjet printers delivers the lowest cost of production for short-run and medium-run printing jobs. Kao Collins offers many inkjet inks that can be used with TIJ printing machines, and can even formulate custom inks for TIJ printers.

Advantages of TIJ Printheads

Illustration of how TIJ Thermal Inkjet printhead works

As one of two types of drop-on-demand (DOD) inkjet technologies, the TIJ printing process heats the ink droplet until it is vaporized before being ejected through the printhead nozzle. High-resolution, high-speed TIJ printheads handle the toughest substrates to print using solvent-based or water-based inks.

TIJ printheads are incorporated in the ink cartridge and require little or no maintenance, which increases up-time for greater output and efficiency.

While TIJ industrial inkjet printing is often used for marking and coding food and pharmaceutical packaging, it offers far more versatility than dates, lot numbers, and barcodes.

A Wide Range of Printing Applications

HP SPS Technology

HP Specialty Printing Systems (SPS) has the largest installed base of any inkjet technology in the world.

From small form factor production-line-mounted or hand-held printers for marking and coding, to full-scale presses for four-color corrugated printing, HP systems produce high-quality results using water-based inks, solvent-based inks, and other specialty inks.

In addition to original inkjet printing equipment from HP, OEMs also incorporates HP’s TIJ printing technology for a multitude of uses, from passport printing to self-service fingernail decorating.

Funai TIJ Technology

To support industrial and commercial printing, Funai focuses on the marking and coding of products. The company engineered its thermal inkjet cartridges for a greater throw distance when compared to other inkjet technologies. With a throw distance of 12mm, marking and coding on curved surfaces is now possible.

The company’s most recent innovation is the solvent-compatible cartridge that handles heavy solvent fluids like MEK without being compromised.

Numerous OEMs now incorporate Funai TIJ cartridges in singular printing systems, or as part of hybrid flexo and offset systems.

Our Inks for Funai Technology

  • Water-based dye inks – black, CMYK sets, and spot colors
  • Water-based pigment inks – black, CMYK sets, and spot colors
  • Solvent-based inks – black, CMYK sets, and spot colors
  • Invisible UV inks
  • Invisible IR inks
  • Visible Fluorescent inks
